Winning national titles and doing what you love in front of millions of adoring fans may be some of the main perks of being a professional baseball player. But what about receiving free luxury cars?
This dream recently became a reality for Robinson Cano.
Fox Business reports that the Seattle Mariner is the most recent MVP of the Major League Baseball All-Star Game, having hit a home run in the 10th inning. Since Chevorlet is the official vehicle sponsor of the MLB, Cano received his choice between a Corvette Grand Sport or a Colorado ZR2 off-road pickup truck.
“I’ll take the Corvette,” Cano said, according to Fox Business.
Cano said at the Miami award ceremony that he has actually considered purchasing the Corvette in the past, but decided to wait it out. This beloved sports car spans seven generations, so it’s no surprise that Cano had his eye on it.
“You know what, to be honest, I almost bought that car three years ago,” he said. “But I was like, you know what, I’ll get it later. And look at what happened tonight.”
Call it destiny, but Cano walked away with one of the slickest rides in the business. According to The Drive the Corvette Grand Sport boasts 460 horsepower. The car is able to reach 60 mph in a mere 3.6 seconds, knocking off a quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 118 mph.
Brian Sweeny said in a statement that Cano was completely deserving of the car, praising his performance, according to The News Wheel.
“Robinson Cano turned in a tremendous performance tonight and is an excellent example to all baseball fans, and especially our kids, that hustle, determination and teamwork are what wins, and that is why Chevrolet is proud to present the MVP award,” he said.
So, be sure to keep an eye out for the second baseman cruising around in his new Corvette. If you can catch him.
